HHS Program Support Center: On-line Registration

The Challenge:
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) required an online registration for its National Conference that would enable users to sign up and pay for the conference as well as choose from selected seminars and pay for it. The website needed the ability to determine total purchase cost based on the attendee's selection of programs, number of attendees, the type of attendee (ex. student or professional), as well as by the attendee date of registration, preregistration or regular registration.

The Solution:
Catapult Consultants and the prime contractor, Caliber Associates, utilized our extensive experience in web applications to quickly develop a web based system to meet the requirements of HHS that consisted of using a SQL Server, Microsoft Access, and ColdFusion technology. Catapult Consultants integrated and customized Verisign's e-commerce package to enable users to pay by credit card online as well as provide HHS customized transaction reports.

Results:
The web system processed real-time transactions. In effect, the web system was able to accept or reject credit cards at the moment of transaction. Business rules were put in place to determine the appropriate total price based on the type of participant as well as the number and type of programs that were selected. The website was developed to be Section 508 compliant which ensured the highest degree of accessibility.
